New elected officials take their seats

Sipma sworn in

Shaun Sipma was sworn in as Minot's new mayor during a special City Council meeting on June 26.


Shaun Sipma was seated as mayor of Minot during a special City Council reorganization meeting on June 26.

At the same meeting, Mark Jantzer was chosen as City Council president, and Lisa Olson was named vice president. Both Jantzer and Olson were re-elected in June. New council member Paul Pitner was also seated during the reorganization meeting. Sipma, the three elected council members, and newly elected Municipal City Judge Ashley Beall all took a formal oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony.

During the following City Council meeting, members voted unanimously to appoint a replacement to fill the final two years of Sipma’s term on the council. Anyone interested in the position has 15 days from June 26 to contact the City of Minot. The final decision will be made at a special City Council meeting following the mandated 15-day waiting period.
