Construction projects nearing completion

Several large construction projects are near completion, with multiple impacted roadways scheduled to be open to vehicle traffic soon.

Flood project: The final lift of asphalt on Fourth Street and Railway Avenue was completed this week. Fourth Avenue is expected to reopen to traffic next week. The paths on the wet side of the flood walls are completed. The exterior of the pump station near the Broadway bridge is complete, and work on the interior will continue through the winter months. Contractors have finished with the bore under the railroad tracks as part of Phase MI-4A, which included rerouting water and sewer lines. Burdick Expressway West is expected to be repaved and open next week.

8th Street NW: The final lift of asphalt was installed on Oct. 31. Work continues this week on concrete sidewalks, with final items to be completed in the spring of 2021.

31st Avenue SE: The stretch of 31st Avenue between Broadway and 13th Street SE fully reopened to traffic this week. A few remaining asphalt street tie-ins are being paved this week. Driveways between 2nd Street SE and Broadway will be paved with temporary asphalt until spring 2021, and the remaining landscaping and seeding will also take place in the spring. The shared use path and sidewalks between 2nd Street SE and Broadway will be installed in the spring.

10th Street SW sewer project: Final curb and gutter was installed in late October, and the final lift of asphalt on 34th Avenue SW will be installed this week. Driveway tie-ins will also start this week, with the final landscaping, seeding, and miscellaneous items scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2021.
